Ann Beckett Award winner for 2016 announced! Update

The Ann Beckett Award Committee are delighted to announce that the 2016 winner of the Award is:

Mairead Connaughton

Title of project

Discover/Recover Theatre Project and Mental Health Schools Workshops, Wexford.

Description of project

The initial idea began by a project group led by:

Mairead Connaughton - OT
Paula Lowney - Senior OT
Niall O’Muiri  - Community Mental Health Nurse

The Discover/Recovery Theatre Project is a unique collaboration of local individuals with lived experience of mental health difficulties and community services who have come together to create a forum of recovery stories  to be discovered and shared through the medium of storytelling workshops, live theatre and digital media.

This project demonstrates the practical power of Occupational Therapy in all its guises. What started out as a storytelling exercise became a full theatre production, a video production and powerful secondary schools mental health programme. The adjudicators were impressed by the life changing and even life saving aspects of this wonderful project.

Mairead will be presented with the Ann Beckett Award at the AOTI Conference Dinner in April 2017.

The Ann Beckett Award Committee would like to thank all the participants who went to the trouble of sharing their projects and applying for the Award.

It reassures us that the spirit of Ann Beckett is alive and well in the world of Occupational Therapy.
